PHILIP HEYLEN

Philip Heylen, graduated in 1993 as Master in Law (University of Antwerp) and is now the International Relations & Corporate Affairs Officer at Ackermans & van Haaren, an independent and diversified group that creates shareholder value by making long-term investments in a limited number of companies with international growth potential. The group operates in Marine Engineering & Contracting, Private banking, Real Estate, Renewable Energy & Resources and Growth Capital.

He is a member of the board of directors of Port of Duqm Company, DEEPC (Vietnam), Van Moer Logistics (Belgium).

 

From 2003 to 2017, Philip was Vice Mayor of the city of Antwerp, responsible for culture, economy, tourism, city & neighbourhood maintenance, patrimony, and public worship. He was unanimously awarded the title of Honorary Vice Mayor of the city of Antwerp.

He was chairman of the municipal waste to energy plant ISVAG (Antwerp) from 2001-2019 and became a strong advocate for sustainable waste and materials management. He was the chairman of the very successful ISWA2015 World Congress in Antwerp(Belgium) and remains a loyal advisor to ISWA and UN Habitat.

He is (honorary) chairman and board member of several non-profit associations and public institutions, such as the Opera and Ballet of Flanders, The Royal Institute of Cultural Heritage, the King Baudoin Foundation.

 

In 2022 H.M. King Philippe of the Belgians bestowed on him personal nobility and the personal title of Baron.
